Allied Electronics & Automation has partnered with Fort Worth Christian School to aid in the school’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and, Math) education programs. The college preparatory school, located in North Richland Hills, TX, boasts a 100-percent college acceptance rate for graduates, including to many of the nation’s most prestigious universities.
Allied supplied the elementary, middle, and high schools with more than 200 industrial automation components, ranging from Raspberry Pis to light-emitting diodes and from 3D printers to test equipment, for use in the classroom and at summer camps. In addition, Allied plans to provide personnel to train teachers, deliver hands-on demonstrations for students, and produce original curricula for the schools.
STEAM is an educational initiative created by the Rhode Island School of Design that adds the arts to the original STEM framework. According to the University of San Diego, the addition of the arts to the original STEM framework is important as practices, such as modeling, developing explanations, and engaging in critique, and evaluation (argumentation), have too often been underemphasized in the context of math and science education.

The Rhode Island college began advocating for adding art and design to the national agenda of STEM education and research in America several years ago, noting that the flexible thinking, risk-taking, and creative problem solving evident in studio work can also help in solving most of today’s complex and pressing challenges, including those faced in healthcare.
“Allied is committed to helping educators prepare students for careers in engineering and technology,” said Frank Cantwell, Allied vice president of product and supplier management. “Fort Worth Christian School has an outstanding math, science, and technology curriculum. We are excited to help students and teachers further their learning in these important fields.”
