Dual-use bioreactor can be used as a conventional, re-usable, stirred tank bioreactor or as a single-use bioreactor. Intended for cell culture, the scalable design accommodates working volumes from 30-1000L. It offers process flexibility as a batch, fed-batch, or perfusion system. The design allows for the addition of various gases and liquid process supplements. The system is comprised of three subsystems; vessel, piping, and instrumentation. The vessel module is mobile and central to the product’s philosophy, providing the key interchangeability between the two usage types. The piping module provides the structure which houses and supports all elements which do not require portability, including temperature control and CIP piping, among others. The instrumentation module consists of all programmable automation components and electronic devices used for measuring, controlling and making the system functional. Furthermore, the system provides an engineering template for retrofitting existing systems.
