I recently attended INTERPHEX 2019, the pharmaceutical industry’s premier event, where biotechnology and device development and manufacturing fields met to “Experience Science through Commercialization.”
This annual show, held at the Javits Center in New York, brings together thousands of the world’s top industry professionals and suppliers to “Learn It, Experience It, Procure It,” through its technical conference, exhibits, demonstrations and networking events. Attendees were invited to discover state-of-the-art solutions to cost effectively develop and manufacture quality products, and keep up with today’s ever-changing global pharmaceutical market.
The exhibit floor featured hundreds of companies with representatives available to talk about technologies, and with new products on display. Both large and small companies were represented at this extensive trade show.
This year’s Keynotes included “Designing Continuous Manufacturing Processes for Solid-Dosage Drugs: Development to Commercial Scale,” which focused on two advantages of continuous manufacturing compared with batch manufacturing—rapid development and flexibility in scale. The use of 3D printing, a factor in both in today’s pharmaceutical industry as well as the processes and equipment of tomorrow, was explored in “3D Printing Applications in Pharma,”“3D Printing of Solid-Dosage Drugs: Current Capabilities and Future Vision” and “Accelerating Additive Manufacturing for Bio/Pharma.”
Pharmaceutical Processing also teamed up with INTERPHEX once again to produce INTERPHEX Live, featuring the best and brightest thought leaders discussing the latest trends, technologies and hot-button issues in the pharma industry. Subject matter experts spoke on topics such as Car-T Facility, Startup, and CQV; Leveraging Technologies into a Smart Supply Chain; An Innovative Approach to Cell/Gene Therapy Facility Design; Collaboration & Proven Results: Where Do We Go from Here? SUPAC? QbD?; Pharma Intelligence: 2019 State of Investment; and Oral Administration and Therapy.
Day Two of INTERPHEX Live covered topics including Advanced & Highly Adaptive Automation Technology Integrated with Industry 4.0 Trends; Adding Intelligence to Legacy Assets Through Artificial Intelligence & Domain Expertise for Operational Excellence; A Path Towards a Better Freeze Drying Product & Process Using Mass Spectrometry; Car-T Cell Advancements; Biosimilars 5.0; and Regulatory Review: What’s New?
Finally, Day Three of INTERPHEX Live hosted a PDA Roundtable: Slowing Down-The Need for Flexibility Over Speed, as well as Isolation and Containment in Cell and Gene Therapy Applications.
