Artis BioSolutions announced the launch of its Genetics Medicines Center of Excellence in Bilbao, Spain, where it already has a facility specializing in synthetic DNA manufacturing.

The company, which also has facilities in Boston and San Diego, supports genetic medicine developers with manufacturing processes. It was cofounded by Harvard University, MIT and Boston research hospitals as Landmark Bio.

The new center provides an end-to-end development and manufacturing platform for synthetic DNA, mRNA drug substance manufacturing, lipid nanoparticle formulation and manufacturing and GMP drug product manufacturing, the company said in a press release.

“The expansion into mRNA and LNP development services and technologies within our new Genetic Medicines Center of Excellence represents a defining milestone for Artis,” CEO Brian Neel said. “The future of genetic medicines demands new innovations and integrated partners that can seamlessly support the advancement of new therapeutic targets from development through commercialization. By combining synthetic DNA, mRNA, LNP technologies, and GMP manufacturing within one organization, we are creating a platform continuum that allows our customers to move faster, reduce complexity and cost, and accelerate the delivery of transformative therapies to patients around the world at record pace.”

Earlier this year, the company secured an ARPA-H award of up to $18.3 million to build a continuous manufacturing platform for extracellular vesicle therapies. The project aims to reduce the manufacturing footprint, lead time and costs, and will incorporate MIT-developed technologies.
