Level Sensors Meet CIP And SIP Sanitary Standards

By Pharmaceutical Processing | April 7, 2004

NEMA 4X rated liquid level sensor is approved for clean-in-place (CIP) and sterilization-in-place (SIP) processes. Manufactured with an electropolished 316L stainless steel housing, the sensor is designed to withstand the harsh cleaning conditions often used in pharmaceutical and chemical processing applications. The housing enables the sensor to remain installed inside the tank during the CIP and SIP procedures without damage. In addition to the electropolished stainless steel materials, all welds meet ASME 3A standards ensuring that no crevices or porous surfaces are exposed to processing liquids. The sensor provides a tri-clamp construction for a secure housing seal, which enables the quick removal of the sensing element for replacement or sanitary cleaning. During CIP cleaning, the sensor pipe and electronics head may remain installed within the processing tank. Because of the NEMA 4X rating, the sensor is protected against detergent washdown and other rigorous CIP processes. During the more stringent SIP process, the sensor pipe and housing are rated to withstand temperatures of up to 121&#176C at 15PSIG and may remain installed in the tank. However, the electronics and inner sensing element must be removed via the tri-clamp head and reinserted after sterilization.
