Medicines Co. Sues Generic Rivals Over Angiomax

By Pharmaceutical Processing | October 9, 2009

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) — The Medicines Co. said Thursday it filed three patent infringment lawsuits against drugmakers who are hoping to sell a generic version of its anti-clotting agent Angiomax. The company sued Teva Parenteral Medicines, Pliva Hrvatska and APP Pharmaceuticals, saying each one violated a patent supporting Angiomax. That patent was awarded to Medicines Co. on Sept. 1. Each company has filed for Food and Drug Administration approval of a generic form of Angiomax. Teva Parenteral Medicines and Pliva are both units of Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd., the world’s largest maker of generic drugs. APP Pharmaceuticals is part of Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals Holding Inc.
