DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa attorney general’s office has filed a lawsuit against a northwest Iowa pharmaceutical company claiming it mishandled its wastewater and committed other violations. The lawsuit filed Monday names Sioux Pharm Inc. in Sioux Center. The company makes a nutritional supplement from bovine and other animal cartilage that is used to alleviate pain and assist in cartilage regeneration. The lawsuit claims the company discharged wastewater into a stream and well, failed to adequately monitor levels of wastewater in a lagoon, applied wastewater to fields not approved for land-application, and applied wastewater too close to a creek. The lawsuit also claims that Sioux Pharm failed to submit required reports to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
