FDA Drug Shortages And Discontinuations: 2/12/18 Update

The FDA issued recent updates regarding drugs that are currently in shortage or have been discontinued:

  • Bumetanide Injection, USP (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Carbidopa and Levodopa Extended Release Tablets (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Carboplatin Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Cisplatin Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Dorzolamide Hydrochloride and Timolol Maleate (Cosopt) Ophthalmic Solution (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Dorzolamide Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution (New – Currently in Shortage)
  • Doxorubicin Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Etoposide Injection (New – Currently in Shortage)
  • Fluorescein Strips (New – Currently in Shortage)
  • Gemcitabine Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Guanfacine Hydrochloride Tablets (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Ifosfamide Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Leucovorin Calcium Lyophilized Powder for Injection (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Lidocaine Hydrochloride (Xylocaine) Injection (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Methotrexate Injection (New – Discontinuation)
  • Remifentanil (Ultiva) Lyophilized Powder for Solution Injection (New – Currently in Shortage) 
  • Saquinavir Mesylate (Invirase) 200mg Capsules (New – Discontinuation)
  • Simvastatin (Zocor) Tablets (New – Discontinuation)
  • Simvastatin Tablets (New – Discontinuation)
  • Sodium Bicarbonate Injection, USP (Updated – Currently in Shortage)
  • Sodium Chloride 0.9% Injection Bags (New – Currently in Shortage)
  • Sterile Water (New – Currently in Shortage)

According to the FDA: 

“A drug receives Resolved status when the Drug Shortages Staff (DSS) determines that the market is covered, based on information from all manufacturers. The market is considered covered when supply is available from at least one manufacturer to cover total market demand. However, some manufacturers may not have all presentations available. DSS monitors the supply of products with Resolved status. For the most current supply information, contact the manufacturers.”
