MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of the state of Alabama’s lawsuit against generic drug producer Sandoz Inc. The jury for the trial is to be selected Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Judge Charles Price’s courtroom. Sandoz is one of more than 70 companies the state sued in 2005 for allegedly overcharging the state’s Medicaid program for prescription drugs. In earlier trials juries returned verdicts against drug manufacturers AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis. Sandoz is a subsidiary of Novartis. The trial of the lawsuit against Sandoz is the first of the cases involving the manufacture of generic drugs. Opening statements in the trial are expected to be given late Monday or Tuesday.
