TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc. said today a European advisory committee recommended approval of for the constipation drug Relistor in prefilled syringes.
Relistor is designed to treat constipation caused by use of opioid painkillers, which is a common side effect of treatment with those drugs. The drug is approved as an injection.
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use of the European Medicines Agency recommended approval. The European Commission will consider the opinion when deciding whether to approve Relistor. The Food and Drug Administration is also considering approving the drug in prefilled syringes.
