ALEXANDRIA, VA (April 12, 2004) – Following Medicare’s approval ofits prescription drug discount card, the Pharmacy Care Alliance last week said that its network of pharmacies now includes more than 41,000 local pharmacies across the U.S., including some 31,000 chain and 10,000 independent drug stores.
Network pharmacies will accept the Medicare-approved Pharmacy Care Alliance drug discount card at all of their pharmacies. Medicare beneficiaries can begin applying for the discount card in May,and the program will begin in June, the alliance said. The Pharmacy Care Alliance estimates that Medicare beneficiaries will be able to save as much as 20 percent on brand name and 40 percent on generic prescription drugs through the program.
Medicare-approved drug discount cards are designed to help beneficiaries with prescription drug costs until new federal prescription drug coverage — Medicare Part D — takes effect in January 2006.
