Q: What do you see as the most significant regulatory requirement currently impacting the pharmaceutical marketplace, and why?
A: I don’t see any one significant regulatory requirement impacting the pharmaceutical marketplace, as there numerous necessary requirements. I do, however, see a need to standardize regulatory requirements between countries. Each country has its own requirements, and there needs to be an effort with the pharmaceutical marketplace to harmonize drug regulations globally. This will allow needed drugs to get to all markets quickly and with the same quality and safety.
Q: Which production, packaging, or software technology do you feel could have the most impact on a processors’ business, and why?
A: I feel that the generic market will have a significant impact the on market over the next several years. With the aging population, the rising cost of drugs and healthcare, and the need for various drugs in highly populated and poor areas of the world, generics will be sought after by larger population of patients. I don’t think this trend will slow down in the immediate future.
Q: A primary focus of Pharma Expo is education. If you could convince pharmaceutical manufacturing companies to invest in one area of employee education, what would it be and why?
A: Again, I don’t think that there is one specific area of employee education that needs to be focused on. More so, a move to increase the amount of ongoing education, increasing qualifications, and professional development of present employees and health care workers. We all need to keep abreast of new technologies, philosophies and developments in safety standards that protect and provide added service and value to both employees and patients alike.
Q: Which superhero do you think would be the best fit for the pharmaceutical industry and why?
A: I would say Superman, because he is an easily and commonly recognized superhero. He is a symbol of honesty, integrity, and service. He protects the citizens of the world, as well as protecting the planet. He provides a feeling of comfort and safety, which is something the pharmaceutical industry needs.
Q: If you could give the pharmaceutical marketplace one thing, what would it be?
A: The pharmaceutical industry is a very detailed and serious work environment. This attitude is very important to have in order to be able to provide the quality of drugs demanded by the public and also to clear all the regulations imposed on this industry. But sometimes this attitude is a little over the top. It would be great if there was a way to include a little more fun/relaxed type of feeling within the marketplace. All work and no play—you know how that goes.
