Pharma Technology Inc. (PTI)—the global leader in tablet dedusters and capsule polishers combined with metal detectors and loading systems for pharmaceutical solid dose production—has been recognized with a 2015 Innovation Award from Medicine Maker Magazine for its PharmaFlex iSeries Deduster.
Noting that tablet dedusting is an intricate end-of-line process that, if performed inefficiently or ineffectively, can significantly eat into overall line efficiency and batch production, the judges showed recognition of the crucial role of dedusters. The PharmaFlex iSeries Deduster was selected for its precision and all-around efficiency during operation, cleaning and changeover.
Medicine Maker’s inaugural Innovation Awards recognized those breakthrough technologies introduced in 2015 expected to have a significant impact on pharmaceutical manufacturing. Though the publication is largely aimed at those who work directly with the production of medicines, the publication saw it fit to honor companies that make such manufacturing possible—vendors whose achievements and expertise lie not in developing the latest drugs, but in developing the technologies that make the process possible. Nominations were received from all facets of the pharma industry and were assessed by an independent, anonymous panel of industry experts, who ultimately named the ten innovations deemed most impactful.
The 2015 Innovation Award was granted in recognition of a number of advantages the PharmaFlex iSeries offers over competing systems, such as increased output by up to 20 percent and enhanced resistance to prolonged heat, alcohol and industrial detergents exposure. The deduster operates via a concurrent airflow system, with its materials and design allowing dust extraction to occur on the vertical spiral’s outer circumference—as close as possible to the path of the tablets.
Additional attributes include enlarged tablet inlet and outlet ports for higher output; enlarged circumferential dust extraction channel for improved dedusting efficiency; a self-regulating vibratory base with accelerometer; clear spiral segments for the complete tower that provide direct sightlines throughout the process; and a tower comprised entirely of Tritan. The spiral tower can be easily exchanged and replaced in under three minutes, and each spiral segment can be removed individually.
“We are honored that Medicine Maker Magazine awarded the 2015 Innovation Award to the PharmaFlex iSeries Deduster in recognition of its heightened efficiency and enhanced output,” said Nic Michel, General Manager, North America for Pharma Technology Inc., “We look forward to witnessing the impact the deduster will have on the overall industry.”
