PACK/Pharma Expo Q&A: Packaging & Print Inspection Solutions

By Meg Snyder | November 9, 2016

Pharmaceutical Processing created a questionnaire to learn more about Rondo-Pak, their technologies, and some of the upcoming trends they are seeing in the industry. Rondo-Pak is an exhibitor at PACK/Pharma Expo 2016. Victor Dixon, President and COO of Rondo-Pak, answers our questions.

Below are the edited responses to this exclusive Q&A.

Tell us about your company. Specifically, what do you do and what are some of the areas that you excel in?
Dixon:

We are a best-in-class partner of the regulated healthcare and med-tech industry in North and Central America for specialized packaging solutions and comprehensive services. For over 30 years we have focused on the needs and requirements of the major pharmaceutical, OTC, and consumer healthcare companies. Rondo-Pak has a continuous improvement department and this mindset is embedded in our culture. As we find ways to improve our processes internally those savings are passed onto our customers.

What are some of the major innovations that have taken place in your industry in recent years? How has it impacted operations?
Dixon:

We have incorporated a Global Vision inspection system into our workflow. This integrated print inspection solution provides additional speed and accuracy to our already substantial quality control process. The system reviews approved original documents against press sheets or document revisions to locate discrepancies such as missing elements, incorrect fonts or text size, color differences, printing defects, barcode verification, and broken text.

What are the biggest challenges in your industry? How have companies endeavored to address this?
Dixon:

Personalized healthcare, migration to sustainable packaging, and maintaining global standards seem to be the biggest challenging trends in the print industry as this time. The challenges within these trends include aging populations, new emerging markets, small volumes for low prevalent diseases and high value medicines, increasing SKUs with variations for specific regions, complex supply chains, industry wide sustainability goals, and consistent quality in global brand management.

Strategically, we have been able to design and manufacture custom cartons out of 100 percent sustainable paper board as well as provide package line optimization services. We also service local needs across various markets while keeping consistent equipment and practices across our global network. Finally, we continue to invest in new equipment, capabilities, and personnel to keep up with the latest trends and requirements that are industry requests.

Where do you see the most room for growth within your industry?
Dixon:

With continuous growth, the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and biotech industries seem to be the most prevalent in our industry.

What are the biggest markets of your industry and why do you think that is?
Dixon:

With growing populations, emerging therapies, and evolving technologies, the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and biotech markets seem to have continuous growth.

Will you be exhibiting any new products at PACK/Pharma Expo? If so, tell us about them!
Dixon:

We look forward to presenting our unique business model that unifies both packaging and marketing supply under one operation. We utilize a “3i” packaging optimization team that includes an:

  • INTEGRATED Global Network
  • INNOVATIVE Life Cycle Process
  • INVESTED in Our Customer’s Success
