BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts health regulators have approved strict new limits on drug marketing by pharmaceutical companies. The rules passed Wednesday by the state public health council will bar drug companies from offering doctors cash or tickets to sporting events, passes to museums or other forms of entertainment or recreation. Complimentary items such as pens, mugs, and calendars are also banned and meals heavily restricted or prohibited. The rules also would make Massachusetts the first state to require financial disclosure by medical device manufacturers and one of two states making disclosure data part of the public record. The regulations, passed 10-0, will take effect July 1. The first public reporting by companies is due by July 1, 2010.
