Lifeplus, a Batesville, AR-based nutritional product manufacturer, reports that its recently installed Pharmafill CS2 cotton inserter has eliminated a safety hazard from its filling line and improved product changeover time.
The Deitz Company inserter replaced an aging unit that had relied on a series of knives to cut roll cotton into individual pieces.
From a safety standpoint, the CS2, with a proprietary pinch roller system that automatically separates the cotton from the roll without requiring blades or cutting, eliminated the risk of injury occurring during blade sharpening and replacement, and reduced requisite line downtime, according to the manufacturer.
The inserter includes PLC controls, several bottle stop positions, and automated adjustments to the cotton length, cotton centering, and height relative to the conveyor to cut changeovers to five minutes or less, a Lifeplus executive reported.
The new stainless unit, set on casters, has a motorized lift platform.
