INTERPHEX Q&A: Track-and-Trace/Serialization Solutions

By Meg Snyder | April 26, 2016

Pharmaceutical Processing created a questionnaire to learn more about Adents, their technologies, and some of the upcoming trends they are seeing in the industry. Adents is an exhibitor at INTERPHEX 2016. Jim Cummings, Vice President, Americas, for Adents, answers our questions.

Below are the edited responses to this exclusive Q&A.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your company—what do you do and what are some of the areas that you specifically excel in?

Cummings: Adents is a software specialist of unique product identification and traceability helping pharmaceutical companies and contract manufacturers to adapt to market changes and comply with regulations on drug traceability. Adents Pharma Suite utilizes user‑friendly, standardized software compatible with both information systems (ERP, MES) and existing production and packaging equipment. Easily upgradable, the software is designed to address both current and emerging regulations to help pharma companies remain in compliance long‑term.

Adents Pharma Suite serialization software was recently awarded an Innovation Award from Medicine Maker, a UK-based publication focusing on the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.

Q: What don’t most people realize about your company?

Cummings: Most people do not realize that Adents has been around for several track-and-trace/serialization solutions in several industries

Q: What is one of the biggest successes of your company?

Cummings: Serving the CMO industry in Europe.

Q: What are some of the biggest challenges in your industry?

Cummings: Clients need to view serialization not as a project but rather an ongoing program and understand the total cost of ownership. Products to be serialized and government requirements will change and clients need to prepare for these occurrences with serialization solutions that economically and efficiently allow them to cope.

Q: What is one of the biggest areas of growth your industry has seen in recent years?

Cummings: Drug counterfeiting being a global public safety risk and the subsequent country mandates.

Q: Where do you see the industry going in the next 10 years? Your area of expertise?

Cummings: Eventually, all products of value will require a track-and-trace/serialization solution. We have implemented solutions for food & beverage, wine & spirits, cosmetics, and other industries so it will only expand.

Q: What would you consider to be a major achievement for the industry in the near future?

Cummings: Compliance with the 40 country mandates

Q: Will you be exhibiting any new products at the show? If so, tell us about them!

Cummings: We will exhibit our software solution working on labeling equipment controlling commercially available devices

Q: If your company was a superhero, what superhero would it be?

Cummings: Superman because he is like an alien and Adents is unlike any of our competitors in the industry.
