The landscape for today’s supply chain now extends to the horizon and beyond. Components, materials and API’s are now sourced from around the world, and controlling the delivery, cost and quality of these items is more important than ever. Outsourcing is no longer a creative option, it is an expectation for successful companies who need to minimize capital expenses and limit their exposure to risk. Product development, manufacturing, laboratory tests, packaging and distribution are all commonly outsourced today, and it is not unusual for a new product license application to list 10 or more sites of GMP activities. We shall explore the best practices for managing a quality supply chain in the global economy, with examples and concrete directions from industry leaders. Further, Tracking pharmaceutical products electronically was an initiative from California called the EPedigree program, but now Congress has passed a bill to require a national tracking system, from manufacturer through distribution to point of sale. Large distributed electronic systems are being developed and existing systems modified to meet this coming need. Learn what the industry sees as the benefits and pitfalls of the new requirement.
