Gamma-Stable Stir Bars

By Pharmaceutical Processing | January 24, 2012

These Stir Bars are the ideal product for a biopharmaceutical container (carboy, media bottle, solution bottle, bag, Erlenmeyer flask, etc.) where product needs to be both agitated and stay in suspension. PTFE stir bars, commonly found in the industry, are not recommended with gamma irradiation and will tend to shed particulates after they have been subjected to this process. These stir bars are made with a PVDF contact surface — a validatable material that meets USP VI, has good chemical resistance with most acids and bases, is animal-derivative-component free, and does not shed particulates — eliminating potential cross contamination. The low profile design makes the stir bars lightweight, and the compact design provides the ability to slide through multiple size hose barbs for quick and easy installation, ideal for most 10L and 20L bag or bottle systems. They are able to withstand gamma irradiation up to 50 kilogray, are the ideal choice for any single-use application, and can be customized with different diameters, lengths, configurations and materials to suit specific applications.
