The Rosemount 848L Logic Transmitter is designed for cost-effective integration of logic and discrete I/O capability on a Foundation fieldbus H1 segment, without the need for a separate discrete I/O bus. The 848L accepts up to eight direct-wired discrete inputs, plus inputs sent over Foundation fieldbus; these interact within the device’s logic processing capability, and drive up to four discrete outputs of the 848L. By executing logic in the 848L field device, the application can be supported in the absence of any central controller, or even fieldbus communications, providing a high level of availability. Twenty logic equations of the 848L transmitter enable interactions to be processed independently of the fieldbus and central controller, providing fast execution for the most demanding applications. The transmitter’s discrete input block can communicate the status of any of the inputs, or the results of any of the twenty logic equations, to other devices on the bus or to the host. As a FOUNDATION fieldbus device, the I/O and logic can be configured using the same DDL based software tools utilized by other devices, reducing maintenance and training costs.
