The company’s approach to eco-conscious drug stability focuses on minimizing the use of sorbents and plastics. StabilOx® oxygen-absorbing canisters, when used in conjunction with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottle, are an environmentally responsible solution. The solution has up to five times the capacity of competing canisters (minimum 100cc of oxygen capacity per canister), so even when used with a less expensive, fully recyclable HDPE bottle, your drug product is fully protected. In contrast, the use of a more expensive multilayer barrier bottle, ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) results in increased plastic and increased costs. Although EVOH has a low permeability to oxygen, it will not eliminate ingress nor will it reduce the ambient oxygen levels within the packaging headspace, resulting in the need for a sorbent and increasing costs further. Additionally, EVOH bottles are not recyclable. The oxygen-absorbing containers are available as a standard oxygen absorber or as an IntelliSorb™ sorbent formulation. IntelliSorb™ sorbent formulations offer multi-functional moisture and oxygen control within drug product packaging. IntelliSorb™ sorbent has the ability to monitor and react to environmental changes within the packaging headspace — regulating equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) and absorbing oxygen in the packaging headspace, regulating the water activity (Aw) of the drug product, and water vapor and oxygen ingress though the packaging.
