AmerisourceBergen Corp. today announced that it has completed the acquisition of H. D. Smith, the largest independent wholesaler in the U.S., for $815 million in cash, subject to a customary working capital adjustment.
The acquisition is designed to enhance and expand AmerisourceBergen’s strategic scale, strengthen the company’s support to community pharmacy and drive long-term, durable value.
AmerisourceBergen provides pharmaceutical products, services, and business solutions inended to improve access to care. Within the pharmaceutical supply chain, the company serves healthcare providers, veterinary practices, and livestock producers.
It is ranked No. 11 on the Fortune 500, with more than $150 billion in annual revenue. The company is headquartered in Valley Forge, Pa. and has a presence in 50+ countries.
