American Seniors Association Creates Alliance to Reduce Medication Costs for Seniors

By Pharmaceutical Processing | September 24, 2015

The American Seniors Association (ASA) announced an alliance with Rx Claims Savings, LLC. (RxCS) that will provide Rx Medication Savings on over 60,000 medications to many of its ASA members.

Paul Cornell, CEO of the American Seniors Association, stated, “This program could not be more timely as America’s senior population starts to feel the pinch from rising prescription drug costs. By answering a few easy questions our members could save thousands of dollars and improve their quality of life which is our first priority always.”

ASA, through RxCS, is offering a unique “turnkey” program where all members that enter into ASA’s Rx Medication Savings Plan will receive a thorough “medication consultation.” This service provides a free personalized medication cost analysis of current costs on all prescription medications. The medication consultation includes over 60,000 low cost medications that an individual may use as an alternative to more expensive medications that they may already be purchasing. For those ASA members who qualify, ASA will find pharmaceutical manufacturer Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) to determine patient eligibility and to complete all necessary enrollment and administrative duties. There are no eligibility guidelines for the ASA Medication Savings Plan.

Susan Bauer, a recent participant in the program who found herself caught in the Medicare Donut Hole, utilized the innovative Rx Medication Savings Program. Bauer said, “I was paying over $521.00 a month for my medications and I am on a fixed income. After talking with a representative of Rx Claims Savings they offered me a program I could afford and saved me $421.00 a month!” Providing assistance to consumers like Susan Bauer who face the reality of sacrificing their health care needs because of financial restriction is the purpose of this program.

ASA’s Patient Advocates will work directly with all sources to price, shop, and compare the ASA member prescription medications and to provide the best possible pricing. ASA’s Patient Advocates will continue to work one-on-one with each ASA member on securing his/her first time order and follow up reorders by submitting and/or resubmitting any application file which may be required by manufacturer plans (PAPs) as part of this ongoing program.

The rising cost of healthcare has been spiraling upward for the past few years. In the past year, costs accelerated faster than economic growth with the fees for healthcare expecting to be even higher in 2016.  The rapid increase in healthcare prices forces many people to make difficult decisions regarding their prescription medications. This hardship is particularly true for individuals and families on fixed incomes, including many of the nation’s elderly.

The grim alternative of elongating dosages and, in some cases, eliminating vital prescription medications has become a dangerous reality for countless seniors across the country.

These programs have already assisted over 1,000,000 individuals in lowering the costs of medications and high out-of-pocket costs to individuals and families across the country.
